RCGP International medical directors

Dr Anwar Khan is medical director for International Accreditation, he has been a GP Trainer and MRCGP Examiner since 1996. Read Dr Khan's blog post on how he works within the International team.

Professor Rich Whitnall is a medical director for Education and Training. He has been a GP Trainer since 2002 and have worked with the RCGP International Team as a Development Advisor, External Development Assessor and Medical Director for over a decade. Below is more information on some RCGP accreditation programmes:

We are in the second year of our International Educational Accreditation of “Advanced GP Training” in Shenzhen City in China, Furthermore, we are in the process of accrediting an emergency medicine programme in India. These accreditations are aimed to improve healthcare delivery for the local population cost effectively and we hope that our recommendations help to develop these programmes further as well as promote the value of primary care.

Shenzhen Health Capacity Building and Continuing Education Centre

A government-affiliated institution established in April 2005, approved by the Shenzhen Municipal Editorial Office, directly under the management of Shenzhen Municipal Health Committee. It is responsible for organizing on-the-job medical staff continuing education training; undertake relevant works of Residents and General Practitioners standardized training; organise relevant examinations and assist in arranging employment; develop community health services training and international exchange program.

Advanced GP (Senior Family Doctors) Training in Shenzhen City

Through enhancing the below five dimensions of competencies (professional values and behaviours, communication and interpersonal skills, key clinical skills, caring for whole person and community, and coordinating healthcare resources and working well in the system), we aim to help GPs deliver high-quality care to the communities in Shenzhen. There are 200 hours of face-to-face teaching, 40 hours of online teaching and 60 hours of problem-based self-teaching arranged in the whole course. Most of the face-to-face teachings also include mini-workshops, group discussions and trainee-led teachings. Clinical examination and procedure skills training is integrated in the simulation and standardized patient teachings. The General Practice Oriented Learning and Development (GOLDTM) training programme, founded by the Greater Bay Area Healthcare Group (GBAH), is a primary care training course aiming to empower healthcare professional working in a primary / community healthcare setting. Since 2017, we have trained over 2,000 clinical doctors and nurses in mainland China, delivering the latest international GP-related knowledge and skill sets and setting the GOLD GP standards such that they could expertise in their profession. UK Family medicine study tours

Examinations and assessment accreditation

RCGP accreditation (PDF file, 1.9 MB) allows your organisation the opportunity to evidence excellence in family medicine examination and assessment. Accreditation will usually follow an International Consultancy visit (PDF file, 1.9 MB) by a RCGP team of experts. This initial visit will outline the steps you might need to take to receive a form of RCGP accreditation.
