Clinical policy programme

The clinical policy programme influences clinical policy and practice across the UK and internationally. The team adopts an approach that encompasses:

  • Responding to consultations that affect clinical guidance for primary care, in order to ensure a strong voice for general practice within the guidance;
  • Staying informed and actively engaging with the latest developments in clinical policy and practice;
  • Gathering clinical expertise and knowledge from across the College and our membership to ensure our work reflects the views of the frontline GP;
  • Identifying emerging clinical issues for the profession;
  • Seeking to inform and influence decision makers on issues affecting clinical general practice.

Additionally, it hosts networks and programmes to enhance the impact of our clinical work and to ensure the GP voice is reflected across the UK policy landscape.

Clinical policy priority: preventive medicine

In addition to collating opinions from members, building relationships, and influencing stakeholders for the benefit of GPs and their patients within primary care across several clinical domains - and our work to expand and develop the clinical adviser network - the team has identified a clinical policy priority to focus on for the next three years. Watch this space for further updates.

Preventive medicine library

We're inviting individuals to submit work related to preventive medicine, including evidence and case studies, to support driving our clinical policy agenda. Please send submissions directly to the Clinical Adviser inbox for review: clinicaladvisers@rcgp.org.uk

Networks and programmes

Clinical Adviser Network

The Clinical Adviser Network allows RCGP members to get involved, and use their knowledge, experience and expertise to influence the direction of all RCGP clinically related matters. The core function of the network is for members to share their expert generalist voice so that it is heard across the UK policy landscape and can be reflected in the future of general practice.

The College reps programme

The RCGP College reps programme allows more experienced members to represent the College externally with national stakeholders. The role is designed to put members at the forefront of the College’s work, providing input into national policy development through face-to-face or virtual meetings.

Endorsements

To demonstrate the College's alignment with the work, the College's endorsement programme gives organisations the opportunity to apply for RCGP endorsement of their work which may include policies, publications, or other activities.
