Final appraisal preparation and regional differences

Final preparation

You are encouraged to write down any thoughts or goals you may have about the year ahead, though this is optional so use it if you think it’ll be helpful.

You’ll then need to give your consent to share the supporting information with your appraiser and responsible officer by agreeing to this statement:

I confirm that I have completed this form and reflected on the supporting information to support this appraisal. I am responsible for the contents and confirm that it is appropriate for this information to be shared with my appraiser and responsible officer.

Finally, there is an optional question asking whether there is anything you wish to discuss during the meeting. Use this to highlight anything that hasn’t already been included elsewhere.

Regional differences

England

We recommend you use a suitable electronic toolkit to demonstrate your engagement in appraisal.

We advise you check with your RO whether they require you to use a specific toolkit.

The Performers List informs the scheduling of appraisals in England. All Performer List activities are carried out in PCSE Online. To register for PCSE Online, you'll need an email address and your GMC number to complete the process. If you move regions you will need to request a ‘change of local office’ on the Performers List to the correct geographical Commissioning Region’ via PCSE Online.

Wales

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) provide further guidance for GPs based in Wales.

GPs in Wales must use the Medical Appraisal Revalidation System (MARS).

One Welsh national variation in MARS is to select a single statement in the health declarations section.

Either: I have read and reflected on the section of Good Medical Practice relating to health. I believe that I comply with the requirements of this section as my health does not put patients at risk.

Or: I have, or have had within this appraisal period, an issue relating to my health and have included the details and reflection in my appraisal information.
