College issues clarification on Judicial Review judgment re: Applied Knowledge Test

“We are currently discussing our response to the Judicial Review with our lawyers.

“It is a complex judgment and relates only to the College’s reasonable adjustment policy for the Applied Knowledge Test rather than the MRCGP examination as a whole.

“The judge decided in favour of Dr Karmakar on one claim and found in the College’s favour on the remaining six points brought in this case. The judgment found that we were not in breach of the Public Sector Equality Duty Act and that we had not failed to make reasonable adjustments nor indirectly discriminated against the candidate. Our wider policy on reasonable adjustments for candidates was never called into question.

“We hope this helps clarify the situation and will be issuing a further statement on next steps as soon as possible.”
