Wes Streeting to address RCGPAC

The Royal College of GPs is pleased to announce that Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, will address more than 1,500 GPs and other primary care professionals at this year’s RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference in Liverpool, 3-4 October 2024.

The RCGP conference is a chance for GPs and other primary care professionals to come together to debate and discuss the major issues facing general practice, the wider NHS, and patient care.  

Professor Kamila Hawthorne will kick off proceedings on Thursday 3 October to address delegates as Chair of the Royal College of GPs, followed with a keynote speech by Professor Kevin Fenton, President of the Faculty of Public Health. There will also be a ‘spotlight session’ on Thursday afternoon hearing from speakers with lived experience of FGM, addiction and neurodiversity.  

As well as plenary sessions, the conference will include a packed programme of seminars, workshops and poster presentations exploring everything from social determinants of health, health inequalities and maximising the potential of social prescribing to mental health care for asylum seekers and refugees and novel approaches to cancer detection in primary care. Professor Margaret Ikpoh, RCGP Vice-Chair for Professional Development and Chair of the Conference Management Group – who will also be speaking on the second day of Conference - said: “This year’s RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference comes at a time of huge challenge and change for those working in primary care – so it’s an ideal time for our profession to come together and discuss our most pressing issues, share ideas and chart our way forward into this changing environment.
