‘Priority must be given to safeguarding medical facilities, patients and staff’, says College in latest update on Middle East conflict

College Chair Professor Kamila Hawthorne has today issued the RCGP’s latest response to the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

She said: “We deplore the continued hardship and tragic loss of life in the Middle East and stand in solidarity with our healthcare colleagues who are trying their best to deliver care and services in the most difficult and terrifying conditions.

“We reiterate our call on all sides to use every humanitarian means possible to ease the suffering of all those caught up in this devastating situation.  In particular, the role of healthcare services must be respected, and priority must be given to safeguarding medical facilities, their patients and the staff working in them.”
