New RCGP GP registrar representatives welcome members

We are thrilled to introduce ourselves as your new RCGP representatives for the coming year, starting today! As we, Co-Chairs (Akram & Deepthi) and Vice Chair (Tom), gear up for our roles, a recap including whom, what and why seems an appropriate place to get us started!

Our priorities for the coming year

As your elected representatives, our top priority is to ensure that your voices get heard at the RCGP and by other national bodies about any and all issues affecting us registrars. So, if there is anything you would like us to take forward, please get in touch with us or contact your ever supportive local faculty GP registrar representative(s) - who we not only greatly appreciate - but also heavily depend on to ensure strong registrar representation across the UK.

Some of our other key priorities, which we hope to work on, with the support of our local GP registrar representatives, are:

  • Lobby the Government and other national bodies about the post-CCT job crisis.
  • Streamline exam resources, support and delivery to a good and reliable standard.
  • Ensure a supportive and wholesome registrar experience whilst reducing administrative workload linked to training.
  • Lobby to ensure equity in access to training resources across all four nations.
  • Ensure GP registrars are getting the best value from their membership of the College.
  • Enable transparent and accessible GP registrar representation across the UK.

Why your involvement with the RCGP is key

Our membership with the College as GP registrars is so much more than just exams and access to the portfolio! The RCGP is our professional home, and it is crucial we, the future of general practice, engage with the College and shape it to become what we would like to see it as. College leadership clearly wants to hear from us - to listen to our experiences, insights and suggestions for change - so if not now, then when? If not from us, then whom?

You can get involved with the RCGP in a number of ways. Local RCGP faculties run many engaging social and educational events throughout the year, which you can often attend for free! You are welcome to attend local faculty board meetings as observers and if keen put yourself forward to be a registrar representative and join our fantastic team of enthusiastic voluntary reps. You can also register to observe RCGP Council meetings, either in person or face-to-face, to learn more about the democratic structure of the College and how decisions are made.

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.

We would like to hear from you

If you would like more information on any of the above or would like to contact us regarding something else, please email gpregistrars@rcgp.org.uk - we look forward to hearing from you and will try our upmost to help with any concerns raised.

We hope to keep you updated on our activity and progress over the course of the next year, as we get to work on our priorities, along with our team of GP registrar representatives from across the UK.
